In Memoriam: Roy Jay White (1980-2020)

Roy Jay White came to the Hattori Hanzo cutting team with a powerful reputation in the world of barbering. His family legacy as a fourth-generation barber helped mold him into the “cutting machine” he ultimately became. With 15 years of experience behind the chair and as a barbershop owner, Roy Jay created a national cutting system he calls “Chop Suey” specializing in short haircutting for both men and women. “I want to deliver 100% accurate and researched information and valuable techniques in my teachings. Hattori Hanzo gives me the platform to teach artists who aspire to be creative and truly change the world.” Roy Jay White’s years of experience teaching in salons and performing as a platform artist placed him in high demand. His high energy, motivational delivery, and infectious passion reassured every student that entered the room to hear Roy Jay deliver a seminar. If you ever had one of Roy Jay’s classes, you immediately knew that you would not be able to forget this guy when you leave. During his life, he left an indelible mark on both the art of barbering and the Hattori Hanzo Shears education team. We miss him every day–both his spirit and drive to provide high-quality hair education as well as one of the best examples of what it means to be a “true friend.”
