Name: Samantha Foster
City: Rochester, MISalon: Motor City Color Melt 2626 S. Adams Rd Rochester MI 48309
THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE SAMANTHA: Quirky, Heartfelt, Ambitious
Samantha has been behind the chair for four years and has loved every minute of it. In a short four years, she has become a Pulp Riot artist, educator, and Riot Syndicate Member! Samantha is also a Unicorn Allainc3 (formally the Unicorn Tribe) artist and a part of the Alkali Beauty Alkamob! Samantha specializes in Vivid Colorization and Color Correction. Before the hair industry, she was working as a server at a big chain restaurant. An old friend from grade school approached her and recommended she look into doing hair because Samantha was always keeping her locks bright and wild. Not long after that, Samantha was buckled up and ready to go at a little salon for her two-year apprenticeship. She began her internship in a cute small salon in her hometown, doing book work, shampoos, and desk duties. After passing state boards, Samantha traveled to the next town to build Herself, her brand, and her clientele. After two years and some tough choices, Samantha decided the best thing for herself, her art, and her clients were to branch out into a studio. She has been a Sola artist for almost three years now and says that hands down, this was the best move she could have made for herself and her brand. Samantha has chased countless dreams, hit some killer milestones, and spread her wings in the environment she created for herself and her clients.

Q & A With Samantha
Who inspires you?
Ah! Great question! Lots of people really! Musicians like Paul Simon and the Menzingers all the way to Soul Clap and Nick Monaco. These artists help me create a magical bubble, a vibe, to create in! From the hair world? Paul Mac Special has a keen eye for the eccentric which really pulls me in. Sam Daly lights my fire with her punky, colorful heads. Kat Collett really rocks my socks as well. Her work is unlike any other. She literally creates dreamscapes on hair. Masterful.
What is your favorite movie?
Zoolander? Hot Fuzz? We’re going to have to flip a coin on that one.
Favorite Ice cream flavor?
Any, but how cool is Spumante? Like, it’s your classic staples of Neapolitan PLUS PISTACHIO?! Whatttttt?!
The most exciting thing you’ve ever done?
I once purchased concert tickets for my fave, Paul Simon, and flew to London for his farewell tour because I was too afraid he wouldn’t come to the states (why wouldn’t he? I don’t even know) and I could NOT miss seeing him for a fourth time. Then he came to the states, so I saw him a fifth time. Worth it? TOTALLY.
Favorite vacation?
Taking my son to Disney for his birthday. Watching my kiddo be showered in cupcakes and kindness while dressed as Dipper Pines (from Gravity Falls) was a second to none experience.
If you were on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?
•Sunblock because my tattoos are colorful and need to remain as such!
•Magic boom box that never runs out of battery and has infinite WiFi because tunes are important.
•A few tubes of Pulp Riot Lemon, because if I’m going to be on an island, I would really like my signature Lichtenstein hair color to be on point. Even if I’m gonna be alone, I want to feel my best!
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
Ohhhhh maybe teleportation? How rad would it be to just pop to wherever you wanted or needed to be AND make it home for dinner?
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Stained Hands Make Pretty Strands ,Reading Between the Knuckle Nicks of Samantha Rae
Who would you most like to share a cup of coffee or tea with?
I had to think long and hard about this one. I think I’d like to have one last cup of coffee with my grandma Lil. She was always my biggest fan. She used to have me cut her hair whenever it was driving her nuts, and mind you, I had zero experience and no plans of ever going into hair as a profession! I was the one who cut her hair off for the last time before she lost it to chemo. I think she’d be so proud of where I am at now, and the things I’ve accomplished. I’ve come a long way from that time when I was 7 and got a round brush stuck (and I mean STUCK) in her bangs.
One thing people wouldn’t guess about you?
I collect taxidermy. Someone hunted these animals, and it’s my duty to see that their appreciated and enjoyed so their souls rest easy!
