THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE DORIANO: Quiet, Silly, And A Huge Nerd
Doriano’s journey in the hair industry started pretty much from birth, although the last five years is when he took the reigns and started to make a career out of his knowledge and skills. Doriano’s father has owned a hair salon for all of his life. Doriano grew up in a hair salon. Like most kids, the last thing he wanted to do was stay in the family business. Doriano took a chance and joined a band and hit the road. After a few successful and fun years, the band broke up, and Doriano found himself stuck. At this point, he was desperate for a job; he returned to his dad’s salon to help out and earn money. A few years later, Doriano caught wind of a new barbershop opening and wanted to check it out. He worked there for a few years and bouncing around to a few other spots after that. He has now found his home at Pugsly’s Barbershop. Doriano has capitalized on social media to learn new techniques and gain a large following. His motivation comes from the barbers he works alongside. He says, “I appreciate what these guys do every day to help me become who I am now and provide me a home that I could let my creativity free.”
My go-to shear and the shear that I feel boasts the most versatility would be the 13T. This shear cuts, blends, texturizes and details! What else could you ask for out of a shear?!
Q & A With Doriano
Favorite platform Hair Sylist?
I always enjoyed watching the Babyliss team in action. They always work outside of the box and that’s exactly what I love about doing hair. To name one Dayna Gamba (@dgcuts) who isn’t only an incredible hair artist but an incredible human as well.
Who inspires you?
I have a hard time with choosing someone who inspires me. It’s less of a “look how well that person is doing I want to be like them” and more of a “look how much effort and hard work this person is willing to put in to get what they want”. I guess if I had to choose, it would be my father. An Italian immigrant who grew up with the bare minimum and grew up to build a solid and booming business.
What is your favorite movie?
This might be the easiest question to answer, Star Wars. I’m obsessed. You should check out my lightsabers!
Favorite Ice cream flavor?
Lactose intolerance really messed me up for a few years but THANK GOODNESS for almond milk Half Baked by Ben and Jerry’s
The most exciting thing you’ve ever done?
There’s 2 actually. 2 months of the hottest shows on Warped Tour and getting the chance to cut hair at the NY Barber Expo alongside my homies with The Holy Black.
Favorite vacation?
4 years ago. A few friends and myself planned to meet down at a gaming convention in Tampa. We rented out this HUGE airbnb right on the water and it surely became a week I’ll never forget.
If you were on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?
I’ve watched too much Naked and Afraid to not say a pot to boil water, a fire starter, and a machete.
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
I’d probably want to be super smart, that way I could build a collection of exo-skeletons that could emulate having other powers.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Man of Few Words
Who would you most like to share a cup of coffee or tea with?
Obi Wan Kenobi. “Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin, they betray you” is a quote that I often reference in my own life.
One thing people wouldn’t guess about you?
I’m a TV/movie crier. Throw on an episode of Pitbulls and Parolees and watch the water works start.
